GENERATION ONE:

1.~ ~ ~ JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK (MATTHAUS > VITUS > LAURENZ > MATTHIAS > SIMON > MIKAL) was born on 30 April 1835 in Littitz 71, Bohemia and was the eldest son of MIKAL (MICHAEL) WENZLICK and ANNA SCHUSSER. Johann married ANNA PLESCHER on 6 October 1858 in Littitz, Bohemia. Anna was born on 22 December 1836 in Elhoten 10, Bohemia and was the daughter of KASPAR PLESCHER and MARGARETH NAARVAN.

Johann, Anna and their two eldest boys arrived in New Zealand on 5 March 1866 on the ship Liverpool and settled in Puhoi, North Auckland. Brother Gregor also arrived on the Liverpool arriving as a single man, aged 26 years.

2. ~ ~ ~ VINCENT WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born on 19 May 1862 in Littitz, Bohemia and was the eldest son of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER. Vincent arrived in New Zealand with his parents and younger brother on 5 March 1866 on the ship Liverpool. Vincent married MARIA (MARY) SCHEDEWY in 1888. Mary was born in 1869 and was the daughter of ANTON SCHEDEWY and MARGARETHE RUSSEK.

VINCENT FRANCIS ¹¹ WENZLICK, born 10 October 1898 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Vincent married (1) MARY BEVERIDGE RIACH in 1934. He married MARY ELIZABETH LANCASTER on 25 February 1941. This was a second marriage for both Vincent and Mary. Vincent died on 31 August 1956 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 106). Mary died on 26 August 1989.

AGNES ANNA WENZLICK, born 14 June 1901. Agnes married Percival Prowse (m Wenzlick) PERRY in 1930. Percival was born about 1892 in Devonshire, England; died 9 February 1972. Agnes died on 17 July 1967. They were both buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 18 Plots 356 and 357).

MARY MAGDALANE WENZLICK, born 1903. Mary did not marry.

WINIFRED MONICA WENZLICK, born 1905 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Winifred did not marry. She died on 21 February 1985 at Puhoi and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 6 Plot 137).

RAYMOND ANTON WENZLICK, born 1907 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Raymond remained a bachelor. He died on 29 January 1987 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 6 Plot 136).

LEONARD CYRIL WENZLICK, born 1910. Leonard married MARY (surname unknown). Mary was born about 1910; died 21 May 1975. Leonard died on 22 October 1998. They were both buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery.

Vincent died on 30 July 1950 in Puhoi. Maria died on 3 May 1959 also in Puhoi. They were both buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plots 104 and 105).

3. ~ ~ ~ JOHANN (JOHN) WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born on 4 May 1864 in Littitz, Bohemia and was the second son of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER. Johann arrived in New Zealand with his parents and older brother on 5 March 1866 on the ship Liverpool.

John married MARIA (MARY) HENDL on 18 February 1896 in Puhoi. Maria was born on 26 August 1874 in Pilsen, Bohemia and was the daughter of JOSEF HENDL and MARIA BOTELSAK. Maria arrived in New Zealand with her family on 24 August 1875 on the ship Friederburg aged one year.

CATHERINE MARY WENZLICK, born 2 April 1898 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Catherine married JOHN WILLIAM TITFORD in 1920. John was born about 1891; died 14 November 1951. Catherine died on 5 October 1964.

JOHN JOSEPH (JACK) WENZLICK, born 9 August 1899 in Puhoi, North Auckland. John remained a bachelor. He died on 12 January 2000 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery.

Obituary from North Harbour News:

John Joseph (Jack) Wenzlick celebrated his 100th birthday in August with Bohemian dancers.
Mr Wenzlick died on January 12 and family and friends gathered at his funeral to remember a life closely linked to the early Puhoi pioneers. He did not expect to reach 100 and considered himself lucky to enjoy his birthday with around 30 family members and friends. Mr Wenzlick was one of 14 children born to early Puhoi pioneers John and Mary Wenzlick who moved from Bohemia to New Zealand as toddlers in the 1860s and 1870s.

As a boy he was called on any time of the day or night to open a drawbridge for the Kotiti steam boat. Mr Wenzlick left school at 13 and worked on the family dairy farm and his brother's Matakana farm until he was 60. He spent 10 years in Rotorua and then moved to Wellington before returning to the Hibiscus Coast to settle at Milton Court Resthome in Orewa.

Mr Wenzlick's nephew Brian Wenzlick says his uncle was a methodical man who liked to fish. "He was kind, reliable and humble". Mr Wenzlick is survived by his sisters Veronica and Barbara.

FRANCIS MATTHEW (FRANK) WENZLICK, born 24 February 1901 in Puhoi, North Auckland; died 3 August 1980.

ELIZABETH MAY WENZLICK, born 30 August 1902 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Elizabeth married HENRY EDWARD ELLIOTT in 1930. She died on 14 August 1986.

CHARLES FREDERICK WENZLICK, born 23 December 1903; died 18 April 1967. Charles was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 103).

MARY THERESA WENZLICK, born 19 February 1905. Mary did not marry. She died on 17 April 1981 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 8 Plot 182).

JAMES MARTIN WENZLICK, born 4 December 1906; died 30 January 1908 aged 14 months. James was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 7 Plot 155).

CECILIA AGATA WENZLICK, born 21 December 1908 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Cecilia became a nun (Sister Cecilia). She died in Australia on 8 December 1974.

ANN LUCY WENZLICK, born 9 June 1910 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Ann married JOHN TOZER CAME in 1932. She died on 23 December 1993.

VERONICA EMILY WENZLICK, born 24 March 1912 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Emily became a nun (Sister Veronica). She died in 2002 aged 90 years and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery.

BARBARA LUCY WENZLICK, born 10 January 1914 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Barbara did not marry. She died on 15 June 2006 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery.

LAWRENCE BENEDICT WENZLICK, born 17 December 1914; died 21 October 1915 aged 10 months. Lawrence was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 7 Plot 156).

DOREEN GLORETTA WENZLICK, born 1 June 1916; died 1 March 1973. Doreen was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 8 Plot 181).

Johann died on 30 January 1946 in Puhoi. Mary died on 19 November 1952 also in Puhoi. They were both buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 8 Plots 179 and 180).

4. ~ ~ ~ MARTIN WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born on born 19 December 1867 in Puhoi, North Auckland and was the third son of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER. Martin married MARGARET HENDL on 3 May 1898 at the Church of St Peter & St Paul in Puhoi. Margaret was born on 10 March 1877 in Puhoi and was the daughter of JOSEF HENDL and MARIA BOTELSAK and younger sister of Maria.

GERTRUDE MARY WENZLICK, born 1900. Gertrude married FRANCIS HERBERT JOBLIN in 1931. She died on 16 April 1932 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 2 Plot 24).

JOHN WENZLICK, born 1901.

ALBERT MICHAEL WENZLICK, born 26 April 1904. Albert married GERTRUDE ELLEN BUHCK in 1927 in Puhoi. Gertrude died on 2 November 1933 aged 28 years and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery. Albert later married (2) DOROTHY REMIGER. He died on 26 March 1987 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 2 Plot 53).

ARTHUR CYRIL WENZLICK, born 19 July 1905 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Arthur died on 30 July 1978 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 1 Plot 16)

ROBERT CHARLES WENZLICK, born 1908 in Puhoi. Robert married MADOLINE ANNIE SCHOLLUM in 1935.

PERCIVAL FRANK WENZLICK, born 6 July 1911 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Percival married ADELNA MARJORIE McDAVITT. Percival died on 5 October 1999 and was buried at Aratawa Cemetery in Te Awamutu, Waikato. Adelna died on 26 July 2013 in Auckland.

JAMES AMBROSE WENZLICK, born 26 November 1914 in Puhoi, North Auckland. James married CATHERINE ALICE REMIGER on 28 December 1944 in Puhoi. Catherine was born about 1928 and was the daughter of THOMAS REMIGER and CATHERINE EDITH SCHISCHKA. She died on 5 July 1965 and James died on 23 September 1968. James was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery.

DAVID STEPHEN WENZLICK, born 6 February 1917. David married CECILY EDITH REMIGER on 30 October 1946 at the Church of St Peter & St Paul in Puhoi.

Martin died on 7 October 1928 in Puhoi aged 61 years. Margaret died on 6 June 1946. They were both buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 6 Plots 144 and 143)

5. ~ ~ ~ MICHAEL JOSEPH WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born on 22 March 1869 in Puhoi, North Auckland and was the forth son of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER. Michael married DORA SCHOLLUM on 21 April 1896. Dora was born in 1851 and was the eldest daughter of JOSEF SCHOLLUM and DOROTHA FRITSCH.

RICHARD GREGORY WENZLICK, born 12 March 1897 in Puhoi; died 17 September 1986. Richard was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 122).

EDWARD BENEDICT WENZLICK, born 19 December 1899 in Puhoi; died 29 November 1984. Edward was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 120).

LOUIS MICHAEL WENZLICK, born 17 February 1901 in Puhoi. Louis married HAZEL ANN WALLACE GREEN in 1928. He died on 23 April 1961 in Otahuhu, Auckland and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 118).

SOPHIA DORA WENZLICK, born 1902. Sophia married LAWRENCE ALBERT LEYDON in 1936. She died on 21 September 1971 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 119).

MICHAEL JOSEPH WENZLICK, born 1905. Michael married DORIS MARIE RODEWALD in 1933.

FLORENCE MINNIE WENZLICK, born 1908 in Puhoi. Florence became a Nun and was known as Sister Agneta. She died on 26 January 1999 aged 90 years and was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery in Onehunga (Area 6 Block C Lot No 410).

QUENDOLINE ROSAMUND WENZLICK, born 20 September 1909 in Puhoi; died 7 August 1986. She was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 121).

MARY WENZLICK, born 1910.

OSWALD WENZLICK, born 22 June 1914. Oswald married MARGARUITE CHRYSANTHE BERGER. Oswald died on 5 February 1987 and Margaruite died on 29 June 1988.

HERBERT WENZLICK, born about 1915; died 1990.

LESLIE GEORGE WENZLICK, born 3 June 1916 in Puhoi. Leslie was a Private in the 24th Battalion of NZ Infantry during World War Two. He died on 23 October 1942 and was buried at El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt. (Refer to my Roll of Honour for more information)

HAROLD JEROME WENZLICK, born about 1918 in Puhoi. Harold did not marry. He died on 23 October 2001 in Puhoi.

Obituary from North Shore Times:

Harold Jerome Wenzlick died from a sudden heart attack at his home on October 23, aged 83 years. Mr Wenzlick lived on the property his pioneering grandfather, John Wenzlick, had been allocated when they first arrived in Puhoi from Bohemia in 1863. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Michael and Dora Wenzlick.

His niece, Iris Brett, says her uncle valued his independence and lived by himself for 25 years and was farming the property on his own until he died.

"He was a very private person. He lived his life how he wanted to, when he wanted to. Even in death it was like he wanted it. He dreaded being an invalid," Mrs Brett says. "He hadn't intended to die just yet. He had just bought a new stove and TV."

Mrs Wenzlick had spent two months in North Shore Hospital last year following lung problems, but had lived a relatively healthy life until his death although he suffered from arthritis in his hips. "He was thrown off horses so many times," says Mrs Brett.

He never married but was a very important part of his nieces and nephews' families.

Mrs Brett says just a week before his death Mr Wenzlick enjoyed his first trip to Auckland Zoo. "It was the first time the lion cubs came out. He thought it was just for him."

Mr Wenzlick trained to serve overseas in he army in World War I but never left the country. "He was just about to be sent overseas to the islands when the war finished", says Mrs Brett.

Mr Wenzlick, who still spoke the Bohemian dialect, was a very community minded person and a keen sportsman. He was involved in public life as much as possible and played tennis and rugby. He was an honorary life member and patron of the Puhoi sports Club. Mrs Brett remembers Mr Wenzlick as being a great tease, "a real leg puller". She says her uncle didn't want a funeral.

"He didn't want t fuss. But I did explain to him there was no way he was leaving this earth without something happened for him", says Mrs Brett.
A funeral service was held in Orewa on Saturday. (27 October 2001)

6. ~ ~ ~ ANNA WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born on 26 July 1871 in Waiwera, North Auckland and was the eldest daughter of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER.

Ann married CHRISTIAN PAUL in 1891 in Auckland. Christian was born in 1867.

7. ~ ~ ~ MARGARET WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born in 1875 in Puhoi, North Auckland and was the second daughter of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER.

Margaret married JOSEPH SCHISCHKA in 1896 in Puhoi. Joseph was born in 1863 in Littitz, Bohemia and was the fifth son of LORENZ SCHISCHKA and ROSALIA SCHINDLER. He arrived in New Zealand with his family on the ship Liverpool on 5 March 1866 aged two years old.

8. ~ ~ ~ JOSEPH WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was born 9 June 1876 in Waiwera, North Auckland and was the fifth son of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER.

Joseph married SARAH JANE DENNIS on 6 August 1885 at St Patricks Cathedral in Auckland. Sarah was born on 6 August 1885 and was the daughter of GEORGE DENNIS and MARIA WECH.

Sarah and Joe had a small farm (54 acres) at Puhoi, just north of the bridge past the Puhoi turnoff.

Children of JOSEPH WENZLICK and SARAH DENNIS included:

MALCOLM JOSEPH WENZLICK, born 16 July 1915. Malcolm married DOROTHY BROWN. He died on 16 February 2011.

EDITH KATHLEEN WENZLICK, born 1916 in Puhoi. Edith married ALEX ANDERSON. She died on 21 December 1971.

JEAN (MARY) WENZLICK, who married BOB BAYER

MAVIS MAGDALENA WENZLICK, born 14 November 1923. Mavis married CLYDE PENGELLEY. She died on 19 August 2002.

Joseph died on 15 September 1963 in Puhoi aged 87 years. Sarah died on 21 May 1973 in Whangaparaoa, also aged 87 years. They were both buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plots 113 and 112).

9. ~ ~ ~ MARY WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN) was in 1880 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Mary was the youngest child of JOHANN NEPOMUK WENZLICK and ANNA PLESCHER. She married WILLIAM JOHN SCHOLLUM in 1906. William was born on 21 March 1880 in Puhoi, North Auckland.

11. ~ ~ ~ VINCENT FRANCIS WENZLICK (MIKAL > JOHANN > VNCENT) was born on 10 October 1898 in Puhoi, North Auckland. Vincent married (1) MARY BEVERIDGE RIACH in 1934. He married MARY ELIZABETH LANCASTER on 25 February 1941. This was a second marriage for both Vincent and Mary.

Vincent died on 31 August 1956 and was buried at Puhoi Public Cemetery (Row 5 Plot 106). Mary died on 26 August 1989.
