GENERATION ONE :

1.~ ~ ~ LUCIO DI PETRI MONIGATTI lived in Brusio, Switzerland. He married ANNA DI DOMENIC ISEPPI.

Children of LUCIO and ANNA included:

*              PIETRO 3 MONIGATTI, born 29 February 1816 in Brusio.

*              AGOSTINO 4 MONIGATTI, born 23 March 1828 in Brusio.

2.~ ~ ~ GIOVANNI MARIA DI PIETRO MONIGATTI lived in Brusio, Switzerland and was a brother of LUCIO. Giovanni married CATARINA DI ANGELO BONGULIELMI.

Children of GIOVANNI & CATARINA included:

*              PIETRO 5 MONIGATTI, born 17 April 1837 in Brusio.

*              ANGELO 6 MONIGATTI, born 30 August 1840 in Brusio; died 2 January 1898.

*              LUCIO (LUZIUS) 7 MONIGATTI, born 16 June 1843 in Brusio; died 1877.

GENERATION TWO :

3.~ ~ ~ PIETRO (PETER) MONIGATTI (LUCIO) was born on 29 February 1816 in Brusio, Switzerland was the son of LUCIO DI PETRI MONIGATTI and ANNA DI DOMENIC ISEPPI. Pietro married MARIA ELISABETTA CURSCHELLAS in Brusio, Switzerland on 22 July 1838.

Pietro arrived in Australia on the ship Sussex in March 1862 disembarking in Melbourne. He settled in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria which was founded as a gold-mining community in early 1863. In 1864 he arrived on the West Coast of New Zealand but returned to Switzerland after 1879.

*              LUCIO (LUGIO) ANTONIO 8 MONIGATTI, born 19 November 1838.

*              ANNA MARIA MONIGATTI, born 21 November 1844 in Brusio, Switzerland. Anna arrived in Australia around December 1871 on the ship Somersetshire disembarking in Melbourne. She married LUCIO DELLA CA. Lucio was born on 20 May 1842 and died on 25 June 1910. Anna died on 28 April 1927 in Brusio, Switzerland.

*              JOHANNES THOMAS 9 MONIGATTI, born 6 February 1846 in Brusio, Switzerland.

*              FEDELE MONIGATTI, born 7 June 1847 in Brusio, Switzerland. Fedele married ELLEN GARDINER. He arrived in Australia in February 1869 on the ship Somersetshire and settled in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria. In about 1880 he was the Proprietor of Pension Suisse and in 1890 his occupation was listed as a Winer and Vine Grower. At the time of his naturalization in 1895 he was listed as a Wine Merchant living in Melbourne.

Pietro returned to New Zealand around 1890 and lived with his son Johannes (John) from about 1890 until his death in 1901. Maria died on 5 December 1879 possibly in Christchurch, New Zealand.

4. ~ ~ ~ AGOSTINO MONIGATTI (LUCIO) was born 23 March 1828 in Brusio, Switzerland was a brother of Pietro and a son of LUCIO DI PETRI MMONIGATTI and ANNA DI DOMENIC ISEPPI. Agostino married MARIA MARGHERITA ISEPPI in Brusio, Switzerland on 17 June 1851. Maria was born on 4 March 1819.

Agostino arrived in Australia with Pietro on the ship Sussex in March 1962 disembarking in Melbourne. Like Pietro he settled in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria but returned to Switzerland around 1880.

Children of AGOSTINO MONIGATTI and MARIA ISEPPI included:

*              LUCIO MONIGATTI, born 1 January 1857 in Brusio, Switzerland.

Agostino died on 29 November 1891 in Brusio, Switzerland. Maria died on 25 July 1894.

5. ~ ~ ~ PIETRO MONIGATTI (GIOVANNI) was born 17 April 1837 in Brusio, Switzerland was the son of GIOVANNI MARIA DI PIETRO MONIGATTI and CATARINA DI ANGELO BONGULIELMI and a cousin of Pietro and Agostino. He married MARIA MARGHERITTA ZALA on 1 May 1882 in Brusio, Switzerland. Maria was born on 17 December 1838.

Pietro arrived in Australia on the ship White Star on 20 March 1856 and like his cousins settled in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria. He became a Miner and was a shareholder in the Empress Mine. Pietro was naturalized in 1877 and was still living in Walhalla at that time. He returned to Brusio around 1880 and died there on 25 January 1898.

6. ~ ~ ~ ANGELO MONIGATTI (GIOVANNI) was born 30 August 1840 in Brusio, Switzerland was the second son of GIOVANNI MARIA DI PIETRO MONIGATTI and CATARINA DI ANGELO BONGULIELMI and a cousin of Pietro and Agostino.

Angelo arrived in Australia in May 1860 on the ship Empire of Peace and settled in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria. Like his brother Pietro he became a Miner and was also a shareholder in the Empress Mine. Angelo was naturalized in 1879 while living in Walhalla. He returned to Brusio around 1885 and died there on 2 January 1898.

7. ~ ~ ~ LUCIO (LUZIUS) MONIGATTI (GIOVANNI) was born 16 June 1843 in Brusio, Switzerland was the third son of GIOVANNI MARIA DI PIETRO MONIGATTI and CATARINA DI ANGELO BONGULIELMI and a cousin of Pietro and Agostino.

Lucio arrived in Australia in March 1863 on either the ship Brittania or Great Tasmania and became a Miner. He also held shares in the Empress Mine. Luzius died in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria, Australia in 1877.

GENERATION THREE :

8. ~ ~ ~ LUCIO (LUGIO) ANTONIO MONIGATTI (LUCIO > PETRIO) was born on 19 November 1838 and was the eldest son of PIETRO MONIGATTI and MARIA CURSCHELLAS. Lucio arrived in Australia around 1862 and settled at Bendigo. His occupation was noted as a Charcoal Burner. Lucio married ANNA MARIA POLA on 05 November 1873.

Children of LUCIO MONIGATTI and ANNA POLA included:

*              GIACOMO MONIGATTI

*              GIOVANNI MONIGATTI

*              ELIZABETTA MONIGATTI

*              LUCIO MONIGATTI

Lucio died on 20 March 1912.

9. ~ ~ ~ JOHANNES THOMAS MONIGATTI (LUCIO > PETRIO) was born 6 February 1846 in Brusio, Switzerland and was the second son of PIETRO MONIGATTI and MARIA CURSCHELLAS. Johannes married (1) EDITH BATES on 5 June 1870 in Walhalla, Eastern Victoria, Australia.

Child of JOHANNES MONIGATTI and EDITH BATES was:

*             HENRY MONIGATTI, born 1872 in Walhalla; died as an infant.

JOHANNES later married ISABELLA ELLEN MOORE. Isabella was born on 5 November 1860 in Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand and was the forth daughter of CHARLES MOORE and ELLEN McPIKE.

*              ARIELLE GEORGINA CHARLOTTE MONIGATTI, born 6 April 1882 in Buller, West Coast, NZ. Arielle died on 14 April 1910 in Westport, West Coast.

*              CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH 10 MONIGATTI, born 28 July 1884 in Buller, West Coast, NZ.

*              PETER FIDELE 11 MONIGATTI, born 27 October 1885 in West Coast, NZ.

*              WILLIAM TELL 12 MONIGATTI, born 22 October 1887 in Buller, West Coast, NZ.

*              ISABELLA ELLEN (BELLA) 13 MONIGATTI, born 1 January 1890 in Buller, West Coast, NZ.

*              CHARLES DAVID LUCI MONIGATTI, born 6 August 1893 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand. Charles married EDITH FLORENCE JONES on 15 September 1920. Edith was born in 1893 and died in 1975. Charles died on 2 December 1960.

*              ALEXANDER AUGUSTUS DOMINICK MONIGATTI, born 12 June 1896 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand. Alexander married EILEEN BEATRICE GROOBY about 1923 in Nelson. Eileen was born in 1901 in Motueka, Tasman, NZ; died 1979. Alexander died on 21 August 1949 in Lower Hutt, New Zealand.

*              LILY JANE MARIA MONIGATTI, born 20 October 1899 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand. Lily married WILLIAM ERNEST TREVETT in Nelson, New Zealand on 20 January 1919. William was born in 1888 and died in 1965. Lily died in 1973 in Nelson, New Zealand.

Johannes died on 1 June 1934 in Nelson. Isabella died on 6 October 1933 in Lower Hutt, and was buried at Westport.

GENERATION FOUR :

10. ~ ~ ~ CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH MONIGATTI (LUCIO > PETRIO > JOHANNES) was born on 28 July 1884 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand and was the second daughter of JOHANNES MONIGATTI and ISABELLA MOORE. Charlotte married JOHN ADAMSON BORTHWICK on 5 July 1911 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Children of CHARLOTTE MONIGATTI and JOHN BORTHWICK were:

o               EDWIN S BORTHWICK

o               BETTY BORTHWICK

o               JEAN BORTHWICK

Charlotte died on 1 June 1966.

11. ~ ~ ~ PETER FIDELE MONIGATTI (LUCIO > PETRIO > JOHANNES) was born on 27 October 1885 in West Coast, New Zealand. Peter was the second son of JOHANNES MONIGATTI and ISABELLA MOORE.

Peter served with the NZ Expeditionary Force to the Middle East during World War One. He married FRANCIS JULIA FRANKLIN in November 1919. Francis was born in 1903. Peter died about 1972 in Bournemouth, England.

12 ~ ~ ~ WILLIAM TELL MONIGATTI (LUCIO > PETRIO > JOHANNES) was born on 22 October 1887 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand and was the third son of JOHANNES MONIGATTI and ISABELLA MOORE.

William married (1) LOUISA SUSAN JONES on 12 December 1915. Susan was born in 1888 in Rangiora, New Zealand and died in 1926. William later married (2) ELSIE MITCHINSON around 1930. He died about 1948 in Auckland, New Zealand.

13. ~ ~ ~ ISABELLA ELLEN (BELLA) MONIGATTI (LUCIO > PETRIO > JOHANNES) was born on 1 January 1890 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand and was the third daughter of JOHANNES MONIGATTI and ISABELLA MOORE.

Isabella married WALTER DANIEL McPIKE on 6 October 1906 in Westport, New Zealand. Walter was baptized on 17 February 1878 in Onehunga, Auckland.

Children of ISABELLA MONIGATTI and WALTER McPIKE were:

o               CECIL WILLIAM TELL McPIKE, born 1906 in Buller, West Coast, New Zealand. Cecil married DOROTHY AMELIA HATCH.

o               GWENDOLYN ARIEL MAVIS McPIKE, born 1907 in Westport, New Zealand.

o               JACQUALINE ISOBELLA CATHERINE McPIKE, born 7 December 1910; died 20 March 2004 in Hastings, NZ.

o               WALTER DANIEL JAMES McPIKE, born in 1914; died 1988.

o               ISABELLE MAE McPIKE, who married RAYMOND ARNOLD LANDERS.

Isabella died on 18 September 1966 in Onehunga, Auckland. Walter died on 27 October 1957 also in Auckland. He was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery (Area 2, Block O, Plot 16).
