GENERATION ONE:

1. ~ ~ ~ EMANUEL PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB) was born on 09 August 1863 in Kilmersdon, Frome, Somerset, England, and baptized on 30 August 1863 in Elm, Somerset. He was record on the 1871 Census as a Scholar living at Newlands, Great Elm aged 7 years. In 1884 in immigrated to New Zealand on the ship “Ionic” and settled in the Hastings region. He worked as a Ploughman at “Longlands Station” south of Hastings.

Emanuel married KATHERINE ELIZABETH WHITAKER on 28 December 1887 in Registrars Office, Hastings. Katherine was the daughter of GEORGE WHITAKER and ELIZABETH ROBOTTOM. She was born 17 September 1871 in New South Wales, Australia, and arrived with her mother from Sydney when she was around 3 years of age. Her father had previously come to New Zealand as the Schoolmaster and Bandmaster with the 65th British Regiment during the “Maori Wars”.

Emanuel was a Member of the Ancient Order of Foresters from 1896 to 1937. Around 1923 retired from farming and he and Katherine settled in Hunia Street in Marton. Emanuel died on 14 October 1937 in Marton, and was buried at St Stephen Cemetery, Mt View. Katherine died on 21 July 1952 in Wanganui and was buried at Marton Anglican Cemetery (Block H Plots 36 & 37)

GENERATION TWO:

2. ~ ~ ~ROSA LENA PICKFORD was born on 24 January 1888 in Hastings, NZ. She married GEORGE HARVEY on 21 December 1910 at St Johns Church Tutuotara in the Rangitikei region. George was born on 10 May 1885 and worked as an Engineer at Baigent's Mill, Akatarawa. He died on 04 March 1954. Rosa died 04 March 1975 in Auckland aged 86 years.

3. ~ ~ ~ WILLIAM EMANUEL PICKFORD was born on 04 June 1889 in Sanson, in the Manawatu region of NZ. William was working at the Foxton Flax Mill around 1905 and farmed at Makotuku with his brother Harry from 1913-1915. He married MILFORD MARY DUCKER in 1915 in Leedstown, Rangitikei. Milford was born on 12 November 1893 and died on 01 February 1947. William remarried in 1952 to EDNA HENDERSON. She was born around 1890 and died in 1967. William died in June 1973.

Children of WILLIAM PICKFORD and MILFORD DUCKER were:

4. ~ ~ ~ HENRY (Harry) PICKFORD was born on 27 February 1891 in Porewa, in the Rangitikei region of NZ. Harry farmed with his brother William at Makotuku between 1913 – 1915, and served in the First World War from 1916. However when in France an older knee injury gave him trouble so he was assigned Ambulance duty and was invalided home before long. He married IVY MAY ASHCROFT BRIGHT on 29 December 1920. Ivy was born on 13 June 1902.

Harry was a member of the RSA in Marton and in Rata, and he founded the Rata branch in association with Mr E O Pryce and was it's President from 1937-1948. Harry died suddenly on 04 January 1951 while holidaying in Hamilton and Ivy died on 24 September 1975. Ivy died on 24 September 1975.

Children of HENRY PICKFORD and IVY BRIGHT were:

5. ~ ~ ~ JOB PICKFORD, born 10 September 1892 in Porewa, in the Rangitikei region of NZ. Job married EDITH EVA COOK on 02 June 1920 at St John the Baptist Church in Porewa and they had two daughters. Edith was born on 13 June 1895 in Gloucester, England and died on 11 August 1957 in Marton, in the Manawatu region.

In 1914 Job enlisted with the 18th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion NZ Rifle Brigade. In 1923 he took over farm from Emanuel & Kate when they retired. Job died on 13 May 1952 and was buried at Marton Anglican Cemetery.

Children of JOB PICKFORD and EDITH COOK were:

6. ~ ~ ~ ERNEST PICKFORD, born 06 July 1895 in Porewa, Rangitikei. Ernest farmed with his brother William in Makotuku between 1913 and 1915. He served during the First World War from 1916 but when in France an old knee injury gave him trouble, so he was assigned Ambulence Duty and was invalided home before long. Ernest married MYRTLE DOROTHY ASHBY on 08 January 1922 in Hunterville, Rangitikei and they had four children – two sons and two daughters. Myrtle was born on 26 July 1902. Ernest was a member of the RSA in Marton and in Rata. He founded the Rata branch of the RSA in association with Mr E O Pryce and was it's President from 1937-1948. Ernest died on 19 October 1983 in Palmerston North and was buried at Mt View Cemetery.

Children of ERNEST PICKFORD and MYRTLE ASHBY were:

7.~ ~ ~ JANET IRIS PICKFORD, born in Rata, Rangitikei, NZ. Janet married LYNN ALLAN WILLIAMS on 28 December 1927 and they had three children – one son and two daughters.

8. ~ ~ ~ RITA PICKFORD, was born on 28 December 1908 in Rata, Rangitikei. Rita married PATRICK JAMES O'SHAUGHNESSY on 26 October 1931 and they had three children – two daughters and one son. Patrick was born on 21 September 1901 and died 29 September 1953 in Marton. Rita died on 27 August 1953 also in Marton. They were both bured at Marton Anglican Cemetery.
