GENERATION ONE:

1. ~ ~ ~ EMANUEL PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB) was born on 09 August 1863 in Kilmersdon, Frome, Somerset, England, and baptized on 30 August 1863 in Elm, Somerset. He was the fifth son of JOB PICKFORD and SARAH ANN DAVIDGE and is recorded on the 1871 Census as a Scholar living at Newlands, Great Elm aged 7 years. In 1884 in Emanuel immigrated to New Zealand on the ship Ionic and settled in the Hastings region. He worked as a Ploughman at Longlands Station south of Hastings.

Emanuel married KATHERINE ELIZABETH WHITAKER on 28 December 1887 in Registrars Office, Hastings. Katherine was the daughter of GEORGE WHITAKER and ELIZABETH HANNAH ROBOTTOM. She was born 17 September 1871 in New South Wales, Australia, and arrived with her mother from Sydney when she was around 3 years of age. Her father had previously come to New Zealand as the Schoolmaster and Bandmaster with the 65th British Regiment during the Maori Wars.

Emanuel was a Member of the Ancient Order of Foresters from 1896 to 1937. Around 1923 retired from farming and he and Katherine settled in Hunia Street in Marton.

HENRY (HARRY) ⁴ PICKFORD, born 27 February 1891 in Porewa, NZ.

JOB ⁵ PICKFORD, born 10 September 1892, Porewa, NZ; died 13 May 1952, Marton, NZ.

ERNEST ⁶ PICKFORD, born 6 July 1895, Porewa, NZ; died 19 October 1983, Palmerston North, NZ.

CATHERINE SARAH PICKFORD, born 10 May 1901, Porewa, NZ; died August 1901, Wanganui, aged 3 months.

JANET IRIS ⁷ PICKFORD, born 26 June 1906 in Rata, Rangitikei, NZ.

RITA ⁸ PICKFORD, born 28 December 1908, Rata, Rangitikei, NZ; died 27 August 1953, Marton, NZ.

Emanuel died on 14 October 1937 in Marton, and was buried at St Stephen Cemetery, Mt View. Katherine died on 21 July 1952 in Wanganui and was buried at Marton Anglican Cemetery (Block H Plots 36 & 37)

GENERATION TWO:

2. ~ ~ ~ ROSA LENA PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 24 January 1888 in Hastings, NZ and was the eldest daughter of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. Rosa married GEORGE HARVEY on 21 December 1910 at St Johns Church Tutuotara in the Rangitikei region. George was born on 10 May 1885 and worked as an Engineer at Baigent's Mill, Akatarawa.

Children of ROSA PICKFORD and GEORGE HARVEY were:

o ROSINA BARBARA MERLE HARVEY, born 24 September 1911 in Akatarawa; died 3 February 1998 at Northbridge in Northcote, Auckland. Rosina was a Nurse. She married DESMOND GEORGE HERBERT RUSSEK. He was born on 03 June 1916; died 24 November 1991. Rosina was buried at North Shore Memorial Park in Albany.

o CHLORIS JANE ORR HARVEY, born 8 March 1913; died June 1913.

o ZETA GEORGINA HARVEY, born in Akatarawa in the Wellington region. Zeta married DUNCAN SINCLAIR McCONACHY on 15 January 1947 and they had four children, two sons and two daughters. Duncan was born on 6 June 1919.

o BETTY MAY LORRAINE HARVEY, born on 17 July 1916 in Akatarawa, in the Wellington region. Betty married MAURICE LEWIS MORGAN on 19 August 1944 and they had four children, two sons and two daughters. Maurice was born on 4 December 1914 and died on 16 February 1975. Betty died on 16 June 1997.

o RENWICK GLADSTONE HARVEY, born in Hunterville, Rangitikei. He married PHYLLIS MAY LANKSHEAR on 5 August 1944 and they had four children, one son and three daughters. Phyllis was born on 17 April 1921 and died on 30 July 1978.

o NGAIRE BALDWIN HARVEY, born in Rata, Rangitikei. She married JAMES FISHER on 4 May 1957 and they had eight children, including three pairs of twins! James was born on 23 May 1924.

o HAVILAND EMANUEL HARVEY, born 28 October 1926 in Hunterville, Rangitikei. He married PATRICIA WOOFFINDIN on 12 December 1953 in Fielding, NZ and they had eight children, one son and seven daughters. Haviland died on 15 November 1976. Patricia died on 12 August 1989.

George died on 4 March 1954 and Rosa died on 4 March 1975 in Auckland aged 86 years.

3. ~ ~ ~ WILLIAM EMANUEL PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 4 June 1889 in Sanson, in the Manawatu region of New Zealand and was the eldest son of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. William was working at the Foxton Flax Mill around 1905 and farmed at Makotuku with his brother Harry from 1913 to 1915. William married MILFORD MARY DUCKER in 1915 in Leedstown, Rangitikei. Milford was born on 12 November 1893.

Children of WILLIAM PICKFORD and MILFORD DUCKER were:

IRIS ELIZABETH MARTHA PICKFORD, born on 31 March 1916 in Makotuku, in the Manawatu, NZ. Iris married WILLIAM ERNEST SMITH on 12 June 1943 and they had six children, one son and five daughters. Iris died on 9 September 2004 and was buried at Mangatatera Cemetery, Dannevirke.

ERIC WILLIAM PICKFORD, born in Makotuku, Manawatu, NZ. Eric married ELAINE EUNICE (Betty) HOWELL on 28 June 1952 at the Anglican Church, Makotuku and they had eight children, two sons and six daughters.

CYRIL EMANUEL PICKFORD, born in Makotuku, Manawatu, NZ. Cyril married MURIEL MARGARET KELLY on 2 April 1955 and they had three sons.

ESMOND JOHN PICKFORD, born 07 March 1931 in Makotuku; died in 1962 aged 31 years.

Milford died on 1 February 1947 and William remarried in 1952 to EDNA HENDERSON. She was born around 1890 and died in 1967. William died in June 1973.

4. ~ ~ ~ HENRY (Harry) PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 27 February 1891 in Porewa, in the Rangitikei region of New Zealand and was the second son of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. Harry farmed with his brother William at Makotuku between 1913 and 1915. He served in the First World War from 1916 and saw service at Gallipoli. Harry was wounded and sent to England, spending months at Walton-on-Thames Hospital and Guys Hospital. Harry married IVY MAY ASHCROFT BRIGHT on 29 December 1920. Ivy was born on 13 June 1902.

Harry was a member of the RSA in Marton and in Rata, and he founded the Rata branch in association with Mr E O Pryce and was President from 1937 to 1948.

Children of HENRY PICKFORD and IVY BRIGHT were:

GLORIA VALERIE PICKFORD, born in New Plymouth. Gloria married TREVOR SHEPHERD on 19 April 1947 in New Plymouth and they had three children, two sons and one daughter.

MERVYN EMANUEL PICKFORD

VALMAI LORRAINE PICKFORD, who married FREDERICK DIRKS on 26 May 1962 in Canada. They had a son and a daughter.

NOEL HENRY PICKFORD, who married SHIRLEY JOAN ALLEN on 20 December 1956. They had two sons.

TREVOR PICKFORD, who married KATHLEEN KATARAINA GARLICK on 31 May 1974.

Harry died suddenly on 4 January 1951 while holidaying in Hamilton. Ivy remarried in 1968 to ALLAN EDWARD SMITH. She died on 24 September 1975.

5. ~ ~ ~ JOB PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 10 September 1892 in Porewa, in the Rangitikei region of New Zealand and was the third son of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. In 1914 Job enlisted with the 18th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion NZ Rifle Brigade. Around 1917 he joined the Peace Force and travelled to Germany.

Job married EDITH EVA COOK on 2 June 1920 at St John the Baptist Church in Hunterville. Edith was born on 13 June 1895 in Gloucester, England. In 1923 Job and Edith took over home farm from Emanuel and Kate when they retired.

Children of JOB PICKFORD and EDITH COOK were:

AUDINE JEAN PICKFORD, who married RONALD McDONALD on 26 July 1947 and had three children.

DULCIE DOREEN PICKFORD

Job died on 13 May 1952 and was buried at Marton Anglican Cemetery. Edith died on 11 August 1957 also in Marton.

6. ~ ~ ~ ERNEST PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 6 July 1895 in Porewa, in the Rangitikei region of New Zealand and was the forth son of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. Ernest farmed with his brother William in Makotuku between 1913 and 1915. He served during the First World War from 1916 but when in France an old knee injury gave him trouble, so he was assigned Ambulance Duty and was invalided home before long.

Ernest married MYRTLE DOROTHY ASHBY on 8 January 1922 in Hunterville, Rangitikei. Myrtle was born on 26 July 1902.

Children of ERNEST PICKFORD and MYRTLE ASHBY were:

RODEN BARNSDALE PICKFORD, who married PATRICIA MARGARET CHRISTMAS on 9 December 1947. They had three children, two daughters and one son.

ERROL FORD PICKFORD, who married PATRICIA DAWN HENDERSON on 29 December 1951 and had two sons.

MAURIA JUNE PICKFORD, who married GEORGE EDGAR LAMP on 3 April 1948. They had three children, two sons and one daughter.

ALYS YVONNE PICKFORD, who married BRIAN GEORGE MATHIESON on 24 April 1954. They had two children, a son and a daughter.

Ernest died on 19 October 1983 in Palmerston North and was buried at Mt View Cemetery. Myrtle died on 17 August 1985.

7.~ ~ ~ JANET IRIS PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 26 June 1906 in in Rata, Rangitikei, New Zealand and was the forth daughter of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. Janet married LYNN ALLAN WILLIAMS on 28 December 1927. He was born on 13 July 1906.

Children of JANET PICKFORD and LYNN WILLIAMS were:

o DUDLEY LYNN ALLAN WILLIAMS, who married PAM MARY VERSMITH on 19 April 1954. Dudley was born on 15 January 1929 and died 16 September 2004.

o MARIE PATRICIA WILLIAMS, who married BRUCE GEOFFREY GARDINER-HILL on 10 October 1959.

o ELIZABETH ANN WILLIAMS, who married DESMOND THOMPSON

8. ~ ~ ~ RITA PICKFORD (DANIEL > GABRIEL > JAMES > WILLIAM > JOB > EMANUEL) was born on 28 December 1908 in Rata, Rangitikei, New Zealand and was the youngest daughter of EMANUEL PICKFORD and KATHERINE WHITAKER. Rita married PATRICK JAMES O'SHAUGHNESSY on 26 October 1931. Patrick was born on 21 September 1901.

Children of RITA PICKFORD and PATRICK O'SHAUGHNESSY were:

o MAUREEN O'SHAUGHNESSY, who married COLIN DAVID VELVIN and had six children, four sons and two daughters

o ELIZABETH ANN O'SHAUGHNESSY, who married MICHAEL WAINWRIGHT FAHEY and had three children, two sons and one daughter.

o PETER JAMES O'SHAUGHNESSY, who married JENNIFER ANNE LOVELOCK and had two sons.

Rita died on 27 August 1953 in Marton, Manawatu and Patrick died a month later on 29 September 1953. They were both buried at Marton Anglican Cemetery.
